Questions
What are tags?
Tags are keywords that best describe what you want people to know about you and your website and that connect you with other websites with the same qualities. The two tags for your website may be something like “photographer” and “california” or “web designer” and “illustrator” if you are both a web designer and an illustrator. So if someone clicks on the tag “california”, they will see all sites that were tagged with “california.” If they click on the “web designer” tag, they will see the sites that have been tagged with “web designer.” New tags are always being added and many already exist, so you will either be added to a new tag that we create or added to a tag that already exists.
What are listing points?
The amount you see below each website listing represents points the website purchased and/or earned by referring other websites to TagSociety.com from their website. Each listing point costs $1 (US Funds) and there is a minimum purchase of 10 listing points ($10) to be listed in the directory. These points determine how visible a listing is in the directory. Websites that have the most points are listed before websites with a lower amount of points, and then ordered by when they were added to the directory – oldest first and newest last. The 56 websites across all categories with the highest points are also displayed on the home page under “Showcase.” These points are earned by referring other websites to TagSociety.com. A website receives one point for each website referred to TagSociety.com that is added to the directory.
Why do you reject some websites?
There are already many web directories and search engines out there that will add any website that wants to be added. You will not see any junk sites or domain squatters here, and you won’t see any of those cloned member sites that try to sell the same 500 cheap products. TagSociety.com strives to be a quality directory which only accepts websites that offer valuable content that is also not misleading, illegal, offensive, or hateful. Here are some examples of reasons why we may NOT accept a website:
- If a website contains illegal, sexually explicit, harmful, offensive, or hateful content
- If a website is very poorly designed and looks unprofessional
- If a website is confusing or misleading to the visitor
- If a website has programming errors that make it misleading or broken in one or in all major browsers
- If a website has a significant amount of obvious spelling or grammar errors
- If a website contains popup ads anywhere within the site
- If a website has too many ads
- If a website is just a placeholder site
- If a website takes too long to load or doesn’t work properly
- If a part of the website is ‘under construction’ or unfinished
- If a website has an e-commerce area but does does not seem secure or does not have any of the safe online shopping seals or verifications
- If a website/blog does not have enough content or has not been updated regularly
- If the website’s owner has made more than 3 submissions within a 48-hour period (May be considered spam)
- And for any other reason that we feel would interfere with the quality of the websites listed in this directory
Can my site belong to more than one category?
At this time, your website can only be listed under one major category, but you will also be listed under two tags in addition to the main category you are listed under.
How often is this website updated?
There is no particular schedule in which this website is updated. We update as submissions come in, usually in batches. As the volume of submissions increases, so will the updates.
Is this a directory for the best-designed websites only?
TagSociety.com is not a directory that features the ‘best-designed’ websites only, although our “Best of Tag Society” section recognizes websites in this directory that stand out from the rest. There are already many galleries and directories out there that feature websites for their design. If a website has great content, but may lack a little in design, we do not disqualify it for the lack of great design. We also do not add just any website. There are still guidelines that must be met. (See the guidelines above. )
I submitted my site and have not received an acceptance email yet?
One of the ways in which this directory is different from most other web directories is that we want the websites listed here to meet certain qualifications so that the quality of our directory is not compromised. Your website may seem like it meets the requirements, but if it does not work in some browsers, or if there are javascript errors, numerous grammar errors, confusing navigation, or if it looks unprofessional, then you may not be listed. But please do not feel discouraged if you are not listed. Instead, use it as a way to critique your website and to discover ways in which you could improve it. You can always submit it again later. (You will only receive a reply to your submission if your website is accepted.)
What do you mean when you say that this directory is in the “beta phase?”
TagSociety.com just launched and is testing out new methods and features while it’s still in the beginning phases. This is also the period of time in which we closely evaluate feedback from visitors of the site to review features and make enhancements.
What is ‘The Best of Tag Society’ category?
If a website stands out from the rest due to outstanding design or content – or both, we will add it to ‘The Best of Tag Society’. Also, if we run across a really cool website that is not listed here yet, we will add it to this category.
Can I change my listing?
Yes. Just go to the Change Request Form and fill in the fields with your URL and the email you used to send the initial submission and then enter any new information. We will review your changes and then notify you. If your change request is approved, the change will be made.
My website is not listed anymore. What happened?
We perform random checks to make sure that the websites that are listed in the directory are still working or are still the same site as reflected by the tags. We also make sure the websites listed in the directory do not contain offensive or illegal material. We will remove a listing if it fails any of the above criteria after it has been submitted.
Can I submit my Blogger, Flickr, or MySpace page to this directory?
Yes. You will just provide the specific URL to your page (i.e. http://www.myspace.com/yourmyspacename or http://yourblog.blogspot.com). We do not accept pages on sites that expire, such as ebay or ubid pages. We also do not accept carbon sites that have the same content or products as 500 other sites but with different member names at the top. If you do submit a MySpace page or similar, your profile must be a public profile. We cannot add private sites because we cannot review their content for approval.
